Birding with Ben in Costa Rica
The ecology of Costa Rica is, deservedly, world famous. The richness of species in this relatively small country is astounding. In no group is this diversity more stunning, than in the birds of Costa Rica.
For an affordable and intimate introduction to the diversity of birds and wildlife of Costa Rica, book one of our weekly nature tours.
On our trips, you'll enjoy some of the best birding possible while exploring the diverse flora and fauna of several distinct biomes in Costa Rica's mountainous interior. You can see hummingbirds, toucans, mot mots, scarlet macaws, resplendent quetzals and many other species.
Your experienced guide
Canadian naturalist Ben Miltner has led several week-long sea kayak tours each year in the Nicoya Peninsula and later in the Osa Peninsula since 1987. Throughout his career leading tours in Costa Rica Ben has emphasized small group explorations at a relaxed pace.
About our trips
Ben began offering a three-day natural history & birding tour through Costa Rica's Talamanca Mountains as an extension of the seven-day kayak tour, to encourage clients to experience Costa Rica's diverse interior. This evolved into a nine-day natural history & birding tour.
A maximum of eight participants, plus tour leader and driver, will ensure you have an enjoyable and personalized experience. The daily schedule is flexible and we travel at a relaxed pace.
Ben’s small-group tours are designed to maximize the time you have discovering this extraordinary region of Costa Rica. You will experience several distinct biomes without traveling long distances in a single day. Our goal is to enjoy the stunning scenery and see the major avian features of the areas we visit without trying to maximize species count.
