About us

Ben Miltner established Gulf Island Kayaking (now also known as Galiano Kayaks) as an owner-operated company in 1985. Galiano Kayaks is located on Galiano Island in the southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada, close to the Gulf Islands National Marine Park Reserve.

Ben fell in love with the unique natural history of Costa Rica as a graduate student in geography in 1975. Years later, in 1987, Ben started offering kayak and inland birding tours in Costa Rica during B.C.’s winter months.

With Drake Bay Sea Kayaking, Ben and his staff offer seven-day and custom kayaking tours around Costa Rica’s stunning Osa Peninsula.

With Talamanca Nature Tours, Ben and his staff offer three-day and nine-day birding inland tours to a variety of biomes in and around the Talamanca Mountains of Costa Rica.

Drake Bay Sea Kayaking and Talamanca Nature Tours in Costa Rica operate from December to April.

Ben and his guides have extensive experience in kayaking skills, leadership, and Wilderness First Aid.
